How did it all start? The Dobbs Ferry Travelers that is?
It all started back in 1991 when one of the women working in the school cafeteria commented on how fortunate the high school students were to go on a school sponsored trip to Europe over the spring vacation. Her next line to Betty Burbage who was on cafeteria duty was: Why don't we go to Italy next year? I'll look into it answered Betty.
In 1992 46 adults from the cafeteria, business office, faculty, aides and others from the village set out to see Rome, Florence and Venice. Ed Krozs, the music teacher, serenaded the travelers with Italian music as the bus took off from the high school to JFK. Unfortunately, the flight was delayed a few times at JFK and the group ended up staying over night at a nearby hotel until the next day. It didn't dampen the spirits!
So that first spring trip started a tradition. Good times, many funny stories and meeting new people have been par for the course in visiting places we heard about. Over the years, a total of 22, trips to Italy, Switzerland California, Ireland, Greece, Prague, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Austria, etc. broadened the horizons of each group.
